Where Do Chiefs Rank Among Best 5-Year NFL Stretches?

Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

With four games left in the NFL regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs have already clinched their ninth consecutive AFC West title. That brings up a topic for Kansas sports betting purposes: Where the Chiefsā€™ historic five-year romp through the league stands in comparison with the other 31 teams theyā€™re competing against.

During that period, K.C. has won two Super Bowls and lost another, along with an AFC Championship Game defeat at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021. Coach Andy Reidā€™s bunch looks poised to be the first team to ā€œthree-peatā€ as Super Bowl champs in February 2025.

As of Dec. 13, oddsmakers from DraftKings Sportsbook Kansas have the Chiefs as their No. 2 Super Bowl favorite, at +450. That is behind only Dan Campbellā€™s Detroit Lions squad, which sits at +270 on the Boston-based sports betting operatorā€™s Big Game odds board.

To get a sense of how historic Kansas Cityā€™s 63-17 record and .788 winning percentage have been since 2020 (thatā€™s four full seasons plus 13 games this year), BetKansas.com broke down the numbers on how each of the 32 teams in the NFL have fared since 2020 to see how far ahead K.C. is from their competition in the league.

Where Chiefs Rank NFL Wide

Across the NFL, no team comes particularly close to Kansas Cityā€™s .788 winning percentage in the regular season since the start of the 2020 season. The Buffalo Bills are the only other club with a percentage above .700, with the AFC East squad sitting at .734 (58-21) during the period in question with four games left in this season, according to data from the ChampsorChumps.us website.

Those two clubs are the top favorites at Kansas sportsbook apps to win the AFC title and represent the conference in Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans on Feb. 12, 2025.

On the flip side, the worst NFL teams during that stretch were the woebegone Carolina Panthers at .275 (22-58), followed by the New York Jets (.288, 23-57), Jacksonville Jaguars (.313, 25-55), New York Giants (.344, 27-52-1) and Chicago Bears (.350, 28-52).

How much have the Chiefs dominated the AFC West? The nearest team in the division is the Los Angeles Chargers, who rank 20th leaguewide at .488, going 39-41 over the last five years. Throw in the Las Vegas Raiders (22nd overall, .425) and Denver Broncos (tied for 23rd, .413) and you have all four division teams covered.
