Kadarius Toney Next Team Odds: Where Will Former 1st Round Pick WR Head?

Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

Kadarius Toney is on the move again. On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs cut the former first-round pick, whom they acquired from the New York Giants during the 2022 season.

According to media reports, the Chiefs tried to trade him to another team but found no takers, prompting them to let the 25-year-old go. He is currently on waivers, meaning whoever picks him up would need to take on his $2.5 million contract for this season. If Toney is not claimed, he’ll become a free agent and can sign a new contract with any team, including the Chiefs, though they clearly felt comfortable not having him for Week 1 against the Ravens.

BetKansas.com has produced theoretical odds for Toney’s next team. As a reminder, these are not odds you will find on any Kansas sports betting app, such as DraftKings or BetMGM.

If Cleveland were to claim or sign Toney, he’d join a crowded wide receiver room, as the Browns already have six on their current 53-man roster. Second-year player Cedric Tillman or rookie Jamari Thrash could become the odd man out if Toney winds up there.

Don’t be surprised if either Pittsburgh or Arizona try to sign or claim Toney if he falls to them. Both teams could use another receiver. The Steelers corps is a little thin, and the Cardinals will need to find someone to replace Zay Jones, who was suspended by the NFL for the first five games of the season for violating the league’s personal conduct code.

One-Game Wonder?

Over his first three years, Toney played in 32 games. He caught 82 passes for 760 yards and three touchdowns, but nearly a quarter of those yards, 189, came in a 2021 Giants game against the Dallas Cowboys. Despite that strong performance, he did not play or was listed as inactive in 11 of the last 14 games with the Giants.

While he had a couple good games with the Chiefs after the trade and caught a touchdown pass in Super Bowl LVII, he only caught 41 passes for 340 yards in 20 games over the past two seasons. He was also inactive for the Chiefs’ final three regular-season games last season, as well as all four playoff games.

Toney has had his share of injuries, but he also has had his share of off-the-field issues. He went after Giants fans on social media, which led to the trade. During the past postseason run, Toney posted a profane diatribe against the Chiefs, who he accused of lying about his injuries.

Safe to say, while Toney will always be a two-time champion, the Chiefs Super Bowl Odds didn't shift after his release.
