Few NFL head coaches have been as good on both ends of the ball for quite as long as Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs — who enters his 25th season on the sidelines this month. With a 247-138-1 mark across his first 24 years with Philadelphia and the Chiefs and a pair of Super Bowl championships, Reid is back and ready to guide Kansas City to another ring in 2023.
Reid enters the 2023 NFL regular season having won the fifth-most games of any coach in league history, three behind legendary Dallas Cowboys’ leader Tom Landry and 51 behind Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots among active coaches.
With kickoff — and the heart of Kansas sports betting — just days away, BetKansas.com utilized data from Pro-Football-Reference.com to see which coaches get off to a hot start and have the best winning percentage in the month of September. Coaches must have at least three years as a head coach to qualify for this list.

Chiefs’ Reid Among NFL’s Best in September
Unsurprisingly, given Reid’s wire-to-wire run of success over the last quarter-century, the 65-year-old California native finds himself among the NFL’s best during the month of September.
Overall, Reid has posted a 51-29 record during the month, winning 63.75% of his games in September, which ranks eighth among qualified coaches, between Mike McCarthy of the Dallas Cowboys (34-19-1, 639) and Belichick (60-35, 632). Reid’s 51 September wins were the second most of any NFL coach behind Belichick’s 60. Pete Carroll is third at 36.
Conversely, the worst NFL coach in September, win-loss wise, is Dennis Allen of the New Orleans Saints, who has gone 3-12 (.200) during the first calendar month of the NFL season.
For 2023, Reid and the Chiefs open the season against Detroit on Sept. 7. Kansas betting apps list the Chiefs as 6.5-point favorites with an over/under of 54.
