Kansas’ lone in-state professional sports team has faced its share of ups and downs during the 2022 regular season, denting the franchise’s Kansas sports championship odds.
The folks at Sporting Kansas City find themselves ranked 13th in the 14-team Major League Soccer Western Conference, as of Wednesday, fresh off a 7-2 shellacking at the hands of the Portland Timbers on Saturday.
Now, Sporting KC (2-3-7) must turn its attention towards Wednesday night’s showdown against the Colorado Rapids (4-3-4), who are currently seventh in the Western Conference standings, in a match that’ll kick off at 7:30 p.m. Central time from Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy Park.
SKC fans can watch the club play Colorado on ESPN+ Wednesday night, as the home side looks for its first victory over the Rapids since beating them, 3-1, on June 23, 2021.
Kansas sports betting was signed into law by Gov. Laura Kelly on May 13. The state hopes to have the sports betting market live for the 2022 NFL season.
The law allows Kansas’ four state-owned casinos and professional sports teams to partner with mobile and retail sportsbook operators. It also allocates 80% of gaming-related revenue for a professional sports fund meant to attract the NFL Chiefs from Missouri to Kansas.
One of the casinos, Boot Hill, this week announced sports betting parternships with DraftKings and Bally Bet.
Sporting KC Heavy Underdogs vs, Colorado
A trio of national sportsbooks have odds on Wednesday night’s match between SKC and the Rapids, in Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings Sports Kansas, and FanDuel Sportsbook.
All three have SKC as a heavy underdog in the home game, with FanDuel giving the home side its best odds of winning the clash, at +160, while Kansas Caesars Sportsbook lists it at +175, and DraftKings Sportsbook has Sporting Kansas City at +180.
A victory over the Colorado Rapids would give SKC 12 points for the year, which would push them past the Seattle Sounders and San Jose Earthquakes for 11th position in the 14-team conference.
Currently, both Seattle and San Jose have 10 points to their name in MLS play, with the Sounders playing two fewer games and the Earthquakes playing one fewer contest than SKC this season.

Sporting KC Still MLS Cup Longshots

Elsewhere, Sporting Kansas City is listed at +3300 to win the club’s third MLS Cup in 2022, ranking in a tie with Toronto for 19th in the league table.
Finally, the oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook Kansas have Sporting Kansas City at +8000 to win the franchise’s first MLS Cup since 2013, ranking 23rd in the 28-team league.
