The latest Kansas sports betting partnership involves a team that plays its home games just across the state line.
That’s because the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL have inked a sports betting pact with BetMGM, becoming the team’s first official sports betting partner. The best Kansas sportsbooks launched in the state on Thursday.
The deal comes as Missouri grapples with passing its own sports betting bill that would allow the state to match the legal sports betting that launched in Kansas. Arrowhead Stadium, home to the Chiefs, is in Missouri.
Terms of the BetMGM-Chiefs pact include signage for the mobile sports betting company inside Arrowhead Stadium and company content on the team’s digital channels, in addition to a multitude of game day experiences and prizes during the season.

For Chiefs’ president Mark Donovan, the BetMGM partnership allows the franchise to have a formal partner whenever Missouri opens up debate on wagering in the future, while also giving their fans another element to look forward to on Sundays.
“As an industry leader in the space, we are excited to welcome BetMGM to Chiefs Kingdom,” Donovan said in a news release. “We have invested significant time and energy advocating for sports wagering legislation and today’s announcement is going to open the doors for our fans to add to their experience for the 2022 season and beyond."
The playoff chances for the Chiefs are among the best for NFL teams heading into the season. The Chiefs open on Sept. 11 at the Arizona Cardinals.
Adding Something for the Fans
The ability to partner with one of the NFL’s longstanding franchises to build a betting partnership from the ground up was a no-brainer for BetMGM officials, like Matt Prevost. BetMGM is expected to be one of the top Kansas betting apps.
Prevost, the operator’s chief revenue officer, said in the release that BetMGM is ready to tap into the team’s stalwart fan base to build brand loyalty in the newly launched Kansas marketplace, as well as in Missouri once that state's wagering market comes online in the future.
“With a rich history and a passionate fan base, the Kansas City Chiefs are an ideal partner,” Prevost said in the release. “As we launch our sports betting platform in Kansas, we look forward to elevating the game day experience for Chiefs fans throughout the region.”
No other Missouri or Kansas professional sports teams have sports betting partners at the moment, between the Royals and Cardinals of the MLB and Sporting Kansas City of the MLS.
