It’s been a midseason stretch run to forget for fans of the Kansas City Chiefs, who have lost more games in the last six weeks (four) than the franchise did all of last year (three).
The Chiefs enter the final four weeks of the NFL regular season with an 8-5 record and still hold onto the third seed in the AFC playoff bracket. But the team and its backers at Kansas betting apps have been staggered a bit by a recent 2-4 stretch. That stretch includes consecutive losses to Buffalo (20-17 on Sunday) and Green Bay (27-19 last weekend), dropping Kansas City’s lead in the AFC West to a game over the 7-6 Denver Broncos.
Luckily for the Chiefs, this weekend’s game is in Foxborough against the 3-10 New England Patriots. Oddsmakers from ESPN BET Kansas list Kansas City as a 9.5-point road favorite. To get a sense of where KC’s 2-4 skid ranks among other recent Super Bowl champs, BetKansas.com broke down the worst six-week stretches for the last 10 champions.
Worst 6-Game Stretches by Super Bowl Champs
Kansas City’s skid has dropped the Chiefs Super Bowl odds into a tie with Philadelphia for fourth in the league. San Francisco is first at +275.
Chiefs Rebounded from 2-4 Stretch Before
The Chiefs’ current 2-4 skid is tied with the 2020-21 team for the worst six-week stretch of any Super Bowl champ over the last decade, as that Kansas City team lost all four of its games between Oct. 6 and Nov. 10.
Conversely, the best ‘worst’ six-week stretch among recent champs was in 2017, when New England went 5-1 between Sept. 11 and Oct. 16 and again between Nov. 13 and Dec. 18 on the way to 14-2 regular season. Four Super Bowl champions had 3-3 stretches the year they won it all, while four more (including last year’s Chiefs team) went 4-2 in their worst stretch of the season.
It seems oddsmakers at Kansas sports betting sites aren’t scared off by the Chiefs’ recent skid, however, with Kansas City still an overwhelming favorite to win the AFC West (-1800).
