Favorite Thanksgiving Side Dishes of Kansas Residents

Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

Now that Halloween is behind us, the holiday season is near. For many, this is the time to begin planning their Thanksgiving menus, perhaps while they look at Kansas sports betting sites.

While most people love Thanksgiving turkey, it’s not the only thing people crave come the end of November. People also look forward to the side dishes. Some are only made for the holidays, while others are year-round staples, but even those in the latter category taste different this time of year.

Utilizing Google Trends, BetKansas.com turned to Google Trends to find out which Thanksgiving side dishes were the most popular among Kansas residents. We looked at search results from Nov. 1-30, 2023. BetKansas.com, where we review Kansas sportsbook apps, considered side dishes that drew the most total searches in the United States. That list includes mashed potatoes, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, candied yams, brussels sprouts and cranberry sauce.

Kansas Chooses Top Thanksgiving Side

Green bean casserole came out on top in our research, with a search interest score of nine in the time period where we looked at the data.

For the uninitiated, green bean casseroles typically feature beans cooked in a creamy broth, like cream of mushroom. Cream of celery is also an option if anyone has mushroom allergies. There’s also milk and soy sauce. The dish is then covered in crispy fried onion treats—does anyone buy these any other time of the year?

If that doesn’t sound like your thing, there are other ways to dress up green beans besides just adding a little salt and pepper. My family would throw green beans into a crockpot and slow-cook them in chicken broth with some ham and potatoes. Sauteing the beans alone in some butter and garlic also works during the holidays or any other time of the year.

No matter how you fix your green beans, make sure you have enough for leftovers during the Thanksgiving weekend. They’ll taste just as good on the following Saturday, while you watch Kansas State football play Iowa State in their annual Farmaggedon game, which could have College Football Playoff implications for both Big 12 teams.

And before you watch the game, visit BetKansas.com to get the latest Kansas sportsbook promo codes so you can take advantage of those while you bet on the Wildcats.
