Barbie Rules The Charts

The 2023 smash hit “Barbie” easily takes the top spot on the list of top 10 movies that folks in the Sunflower State were willing to wait in line for while they hopped on their Kansas sports betting apps.

“Barbie” was nominated in eight major categories at the 2024 Academy Awards and won for Best Original Song, “What Was I Made For” by Billie Eilish. According to iMDB, the movie grossed more than $636 million in North America and more than $1.4 billion worldwide.

Star Margot Robbie (above) also co-produced the film, and many fans were stunned when she was not nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars. Co-stars Ryan Gosling and America Ferrara were nominated in the best supporting categories, but both lost.

“Barbie” had 10 search interest points, according to our research, double the amount for any other movie released in the past five years. A Mario, A King And More

The No. 2 spot on the list belongs to “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” from 2023. It was the first film based on a video game to break $1 billion in worldwide box office. Chris Pratt was the voice of Mario and Charlie Day voiced Luigi in the film, which was based on the decades-old Nintendo video game. This movie garnered 5 search interest score points.

In third place with 4 points is “Elvis,” the 2022 biopic of Elvis Presley, The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Portraying Presley was a breakout role for Austin Butler. The movie also features Tom Hanks as Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, and was directed by Baz Luhrmann. “Elvis” earned eight nominations at the 2023 Oscars, including Best Picture and a nod for Butler as Best Actor, but didn’t win any.

After that, there’s a three-way tie for fourth, with “Dune: Part One” from 2021, “The Batman” from 2022, and 2023’s Oscar-winning “Oppenheimer” all scoring 3 search interest points.
