It makes perfect sense that National Ice Cream month would fall in July, as this is the right time to find something cool to eat during the blazing hot summer.
But what is the go-to flavor for everyone in Kansas?
BetKansas.com took a break from covering Kansas sports betting and utilized Google Trends to determine the most searched ice cream flavors by each state using YouGov’s data on the Top 11 most popular ice cream flavors in 2018.
After completing the trends over the past 12 months (from July 6, 2022, to July 6, 2023), we were able to find the top five ice cream flavors in Kansas.
Kansas’ Favorite Ice Cream Flavors
Kansas Goes Plain on Ice Cream
The No. 1 searched flavor is plain vanilla, followed by a four-way tie for second with chocolate, cookies and cream, strawberry and chocolate chip. Other flavors in the data included butter pecan, chocolate chip cookie dough, pistachio, rocky road and cake batter.
If such things were available on Kansas sports betting apps, vanilla would be a chalk wager since it’s not too far out of line with a national poll by YouGov. That poll ranked vanilla and chocolate at the top of the list with strawberry, cookies and cream and chocolate chip also earning praise.
That national data asked the question about how many say a flavor is their favorite, and it’s only 11% for vanilla and 10% for chocolate. So, it’s not exactly like any flavor is the landslide favorite.
Now, as far as where to find your favorite ice cream, there’s no shortage of lists for the best parlors in Kansas to find your tasty treat.
A big one that shows up on all lists is Sylas and Maddy’s, which has two locations in Lawrence and Olathe. If you can’t find what you like there, then you’re just not into ice cream. The store boasts 74 flavors to choose from, so if the state’s favorites aren’t what you have in mind, you have options.
Other top places include Katie’s Goody Shop in Ulysses, the KSU Dairy Bar in Manhattan, Churn and Burn in Wichita, Bogey’s Ice Cream Shop in Salina and The Dairy Barn in Wathena.
Chances are pretty good if you don’t live close to one of those, you’ve got other choices nearby. Another place that shows up on several lists is Braum’s, and one website says Kansas has 32 stores.
